Born in London and emigrated to Northern Rhodesia where I was educated up to English Form 6. Studied for 4 years at the University of Cape Town where I graduated as an Electrical Engineer. Joined firm of consulting engineers but got fed up with working on a drawing board and requalified as an electrician. Worked in the United States, Canada, South Africa and the UK. Emigrated to Australia in 1980 and built up a large electrical contracting business in Sydney concentrating on industrial and Commonwealth Government installations including Telecom. Became widowed in 1994 and concentrated on bringing up my children. Taught mathematics in China for a year after getting a TESOL qualification.
Three grown-up children, one with three children of her own.
Went back to working professionally and built up an engineering/computing consultancy in Melbourne designing and installing process monitoring systems for plastics injection moulding machines.
Decided to take life a little 'easier' and started working sessionally in 2007 as an electrotechnology teacher.
Am now working in education full time and harder than ever !!
Sort of late life career start.
These are our future apprentices . We need to plan for their future and develop new techniques and technologies to allow them to become highly skilled electrical technicians !! As you can see from the picture, it's a fine career for a man or woman.
